The Conductor

.The Composer

.The Violinist

A natural inquisitiveness and a genuine interest in music from a very early age; the innate ability to communicate joy and enthusiasm through the process of work with musicians, as well as through live performances, and finally an unwavering love and admiration for the work of great composers, has led Bernd Gradwohl to conducting.

Violin studies with Ola Rudner, (Sandor Vegh graduate and concert master of the Camerata Salzburg),  chamber music studies in the Academia Musicale Chigiana with the Trio di Trieste where he graduated with excellence, studies with the conductor and pianist Szelenji and a private conducting tuition with Carlos Kleiber are further insight in his musical approach

Bernd Gradwohl presented work of the Viennese classics in many concerts and tours in Europe and Asia: Haydn symphonies and concerti (the native Eisenstädter grew up with Haydn's music) Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert.

During his 5 years as Chief Conductor of the "Seoul Academy Ensemble" (an orchestra all of whose members are music university professors), Bernd Gradwohl conducted a vast and varied repertoire.

Under his direction the orchestral works of Corelli, Bach, Bartok, Beethoven, Dvorak, Devienne, Haydn, Händel, Lalo, Lanner, Mozart, Reger, Strauß, Saint Saens, Telemann, Tschaikowsky, etc. were performed in South Korea, Spain and Austria.

He also conducted numerous 1st performances (première): with music of Michele Lysight, Milan Dubrovsky, Zoltan Kovacs, Shinuh Lee, Otto Strobl, Franz Zebinger, Stefan Heckel...

In 2007 Bernd Gradwohl founded the Schlosscapelle Chamber Orchestra (initially under the name NCC), which united international soloist and chamber musicians.

The SchlossCapelle has been enthusiastically received by audiences, professional experts and the Press not only for irs vibrating renditions of the symphonies of Joseph Haydn but also for the works of living composers, with convincing creative power for which it met the the enthousiasm of the public.“ An orchestra which has played into the heart of of its audience with youthfull swing and technical perfection “( quote ORF)

Bernd Gradwohl was awarded the same year “Musician of the year”,for the 40th jubilee of the Austrian classical  broadcast ö1. The award honoured his musical versatility, namely, his interpretation of the Haydn’s symphonies as a conductor, his live recording in a single evening concert performance of all Bach Sonatas and Partitas as a violonist ,and his work as a composer.

Many CDs, Radio and TV broadcasts (ORF, 3 SAT, MTV, etc.)

Cooperation as conductor with the following orchestras:

Die SchlossCapelle, Kammerorchester Joseph Haydn, Straußenensemble der Mitglieder des Passauer Opernorchesters, Nordungarischen Sinfonieorchesters Szeged and the Camerata madri, Seaul ,Academy Ensemble, Camerata Koreana.

Bernd Gradwohl's private encounter with Carlos Kleiber in Munich was very fortunate. Carlos Kleiber's suggested conducting techniques, together with his musical philosophy, confirmed Bernd Gradwohl’s strong belief that music can deliver its magic, not when it is made, but only when it is allowed to happen.
